Selamat Hari Ibu!
We specifically chose today, 22nd December, as the actual launch for The Urban Mama because of its significant representation.. a Mother’s Day celebration for Mamas in Indonesia. Indonesian Mother’s Day celebration is not like the mother’s day that is being celebrated in other countries. Based on the congress that was held in Yogyakarta in 1928, the Mother’s Day is to transform Indonesian women as “Ibu Bangsa”, which means that women does not always have a domestic and social role, but also politically where they have the obligation to grow and nurture for better generation.
The Urban Mama website is our “gift” for all Indonesian Mamas, as Ibu Bangsa who will nurture the children towards a better generation. The Urban Mama website is a place to share their thoughts & experiences, to tell stories about what they hope for their child, a place to discuss about the one thing they are definitely passionate about… their children, the next generation!
So, do enjoy the site!

Mother’s Day was just another day for me until i gave birth to my children, Aldebaran & Arzachel. Now, every December 22, i always listen to a song called “A Song for Mama” from Boyz II Men. For me, it is a song with profound meaning.
After I have children, I always call my mom to say happy mother’s day (also to my friends who has become a mother). Realize what my mom has done to me is priceless. Happy mother’s Day! I love you, Mama!

I would never understand this before, until I gave birth to my lovely daughter, Naia. Today is the day we celebrate Mother’s Day, but the appreciation to moms is all year round. I will not be here if it’s not because of my mother and I will not become a good mother, if I wasn’t learning them from my mom. And I would never understand what a mother means and feels, until I become one myself. There’s no exact words I can use to describe the love that my mom has, or my love toward my child. One thing I do know, it was there before I was even born and it will be there long after… I love you, Mama!
Thalia, a mama to Aina
When I was little, every 22nd of December, my dad would wake me and my brother up in the morning, and we made breakfast for my mom. My dad said it’s one of the small ways to show our appreciation to our mom. I thought it was fun.
Now that I have Aina, I know that motherhood is more than just a piece of toast with sunny-side-up egg on top. It’s probably one of the things that can’t be explained until experienced. but I hope I can start teaching Aina about it, starting with the toast and eggs. I love you, Mama!
